Labradoodle
Isn't she sweet !
The australian on the right picture is Pebbles. Pebbles is one of our labradoodles, she is a medium labradoodle with open fleece coat, her coat is as soft as satin. She is smart, social, active, sweet for children, cuddly to people, quite in home and a real beast outdoors where she does not avoid a jump in a ditch. Above all is Pebbles a full member of our family.
Breeding Australian labradoodles is a hobby for us, a hobby which we take very seriously ! This website is devoted to the Australian Labradoodle: what kind of dog is it, how big do they get, what colours etcetera. We will explain how we breed labradoodles and how you can apply for a labradoodle puppy. We try to update and improve this website regularly. If you have any questions after reading this page, don't hesitate to call or email us. We are happy to answer any questions you might have !
The australian labradoodle in brief:
- has a hypo allergene coat and does not give an allergic reaction (in 99% of the cases)
- does not shed
- is very social towards humans and animals
- is very intelligent (that is to say most of them......) and high sensitive
- is eager to work for you
- is very suitable for families with children (also for children with disabilities)
First let me introduce myself: my name is Claudia Jansen, I live together with my husband Aschwin Jansen, 2 children, 4 chickens and our australian labradoodles in a suburb of Eindhoven, a city in the south of The Netherlands, about 70 minutes drive from our main airport Schiphol Amsterdam. I love dogs since I can walk, I had a few Malthese which became 14 and 16 years old. Whenin 2008 I read information about the labradoodle I immediately fell for this wonderful dog ! A dog that does not shed, which is sweet to children, social to other dogs, and very clever: that was the dog I was looking for !
In september 2008 I bbrought my first Australian labradoodle home: Doozle ! Doozle is a standard labadoodle with curly fleece coat. From day 1 it was clear to me that this was a special type of dog. Imagine a dog with telephatic gifts, only a look or a hand sign is enough to let the dog know what you want. A dog that does not fight with other dogs. If a dog has bad karma, they just walk around them. A dog that really does not shed, finally I got rid of those hears everywhere ! The thick coat would make you think otherwise, but they really don't shed. Finally, they love to cuddle and with their teddybear looks and feel it is just wonderful cuddling, also if you have dogallergy. We are not allergic, but that is also one of the best features: Australian labradoodles can ben held by people with dog allergy !
Labradoodle as visiting dog
Because they love cuddling so much, especially with children, I proposed to the local hospital to come and visit the childrens department every tuesday. First it was an experiment, which was covered in local newspapers, but after a few sessions it became clear to the medical staff that the weekly dog visit contributed to a faster healing of the children. Some children with mental issues suddenly opened up, children with eating disorders started eating again etc. For me this was a true eye opener, I never expected the things I weekly experience with the labradoodles . (I visit together with my good friend who owns a labradoodle also) It is volunteer work but I get so much satisfaction out of it, that cannot be expressed in money. Our adventures can be followed on www.doedelteam.nl. It is in dutch but you can see on the pictures how much fun we have.
Labradoodle breeder
I see every week in the hospital how special australian labradoodles are and decided that I want to contribute to the world by breeding more of these magnificent dogs. There are a lot of people with dog allergy and a lot of children with mental health issues, and I want to help them. Of course also regular people and families can enjoy an Australian labradoodle. This dog brings joy to any home, any place, any people. Wherever we go in the world, everywhere people start smiling when they see us with our dogs. Breeding for us is not our main income, it is a hobby, which we by the way take very seriously. We want to improve the breed and only breed accoring to the highest standards. We are a member of the european and dutch breeders associations ALAEU en ALANL. We can explain more on the page how we breed labradoodles. We do not breed with labradors and poodles, we only breed 4th generation multigen australian labradoodles.
Most dogs have a similar look, for example the german shepherd, rottweiler, jack russel etc. They all look the same. This does not apply for the australian labradoodle. They come in 3 sizes, 3 coat types and various colours. Here we will give you more information.
Which type of australian labradoodle do we breed ?
We breed medium australian labradoodle with a fleece coat mostly in the lighter colours (like cream, caramel, gold and apricot). Occasionaly chocolate can also occur.
History of the Australian Labradoodle(in brief)
The Labradoodle is a unique dog, with a fascinating history. Their story begins in Australia. And it all started with an inquiry from a visually impaired woman in Hawaii, who wanted a guide dog that wouldn’t cause her husband’s allergies to flare. Now in response to the women’s request, roughly thirty hair and saliva samples were sent to Hawaii to test for allergy friendliness over a two-year period. Unfortunately, none on those original samples proved successful. Following the failure of those samples, a man named Wally Conren suggested to the Manager of the Australian Guide Dog Association to cross a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle. Approval was granted and his first litter produced three puppies. Wally gave the resulting cross the name still in use today—Labradoodle. Now from those three puppies, hair and saliva samples were sent to Hawaii for testing once again. And this time, the samples from a puppy named Sultan were successful! As you can see, these are dogs bred with intent. They fill a vital niche in the dog world - being allergy friendly service dogs.
When Wally retired, 2 australian dog breeders, Rutland Manor and Tegan Park, decided to continue the breeding program. They decided that the gene pool was too narrow, and the chance of genetic disorders from labradors and poodlesbecame too big. So other dogs such as the Irish Water Spaniël, Curly Coat retriever, the English and Americain Cocker Spaniël were infused. The end result was the australian labradoodle in 3 sizes, 3 different coat types and in varius colours. They managed to combine the best aspects of every dog within the Australian labradoodle. Our dogs have bllodlines directly to Rutland Manor and Tegan Park to assure you the best quality.
Appearance labradoodle

They look athletic and graceful with a compact body displaying substance with medium boning. Should not appear cloddy or heavy nor overly fine. A distinctive feature of this breed is their coat, which is non-shedding and easy to manage. When they walk slowly they have the same type of walk as an polar bear, when they walk a bit faster it looks like a dressage horse, and running they look like clowns with their big ears waving in the air.
Labradoodle sizese
The Australian labradoodle is available in 3 sizes:
• Standard: 21-24 inches, weighs 50-65 lbs.
• Medium: 17-20 inches, weighs 30 to 45 lbs.
• Miniature: 14-16 inches, weighs 15 to 25 lbs.
Happy Doodles breeds the medium labradoodle, on average 18-20 inches.
Labradoodle coats
Maybe you don't believe it but the coat of the australian labradoodle is self cleaning. When you go to the woods, let him swim and drive home with him all muddy, chances are that most of the mudd has fallen of the coat. The rest you can spray of with the garden hose, let him dry for an hour or so and they are 90% clean again. The remaining 10% will be cleaned the hourse after that. Truely remarkable !
There are 3 coat types:

| Curly: Looks like a Poodle coat and needs often brushing. |
Fleece: A softer coat with a little small curl at the end. Is easy to maintain, weekly brushing is enough. |
Curly fleece: This is also a fleece coat but has a bit more curls or longer curls. Also easy to maintain, brushing once a week is sufficient. |
Happy Doodles only breeds labradoodles with fleece or curly fleece coat.
Grooming
An australian labradoodle does shed ! However, the shed hairs stay in the coat, that's why you don't see any hairs on clothes or house. Because of this you need to brush your labradoodle at least once a week, to avoid tangles and felting of the coat. Every 2 months you can cut the coat a bit shorter or have your labradoodle groomed.
Labradoodle colours
The labradoodle is available in many colours. Common colours are:

Happy doodles breeds in the lighter colours, like cream, caramel or gold. Occasionaly chocolota occurs.
Labradoodle pigments
Pigment is the colour of the nose and skin around the eyes, lips and paws. 2 pigment colours can occur: black (most common) and liver (rare). The liver pigment is not a lack of pigment, but a real colour. Mostly a labradoodle with liver nose has beautiful green eyes, these are very special. Our Pebbles has a liver nose and eyes you can drown in so beautiful.
Labradoodle character
They are extremely clever, sociable, comical, joyful, energetic when free and soft and quiet when handled. They approach people in a happy friendly manner, keen and are easy to train. They display an intuition about their family members or handler’s current emotional state or needs. This ability to “know” is what has made the Australian Labradoodle an excellent dog for individuals with special needs. The labradoodle belong to the group water dogs/retrievers so they love swimming, retrieving and doing things for you, making them excellent service dogs.
Labradoodle and children
There is no dog more suitable for children than the australian labradoodle. He likes children so much, he can spend all day with them. When your children are playing in the garden building a hut or something, the labradoodle will be there. Just being there is enough for him. On youtube we came across a clip which shows a labradoodle with typical labradoodle behaviour. You can watch how a labradoodle is with children. (by the way: this is not one of our labradoodles)
Also children with mental issues such as autisme or ADHD will improve when they have a labradoodle as their friend. The dog will feal responsible to the child and behave accordingly. The child will do more things he normally would avoid, because together with his pal he can do it !
Allergy and astma friendly: What does it really mean ?
It means dat 98 of 100 labradoodles will not give you any reaction. We noticed that there are a lot of people with dog allergy who would love to have a dog. We want to help these people and that is one of the main reasons for us breeding these dogs.
Unfortunately there are also breeders who breed labradors and poodles and call these dogs also labradoodles. Stay away from these people ! Only visit a breeder who is breeding australian labradoodles. They are your best chance for a allergy free dog. Here you can find the grading scheme of an australian labradoodle.
